Tap the "General" option. It features a small version of the same gray icon that you previously tapped.
Tap the "Usage" option, which you can find near the top of your "General" options screen. You will then see a list of pertinent information about your battery life, including the amount of usage since your last charge, and the amount of standby time since your last charge.
Tap the animated "Battery Percentage" switch at the top of your screen. Tapping the switch toggles between the "On" and "Off" options. By switching it to "On," you can view your available battery percentage in the upper-right corner of your screen. Tap it again to the "Off" position any time you want to remove the battery percentage sign from your screen.
By default, the iPod Touch displays your remaining battery life using an animated image of a battery. By observing the battery icon, you can estimate your percentage available and determine whether or not you need to recharge. For a more precise indication of your battery life, you can turn on the battery percentage feature, which tells you the exact percentage of battery life that you have available. The iPod Touch with iOS 4.0 software allows you to turn on this feature in a matter of seconds.
