Import music you wish to transfer to the iPod Shuffle into iTunes. Navigate to a song or group of songs on your computer, highlight the ones you wish to import into iTunes, right-click anywhere within the window and click "iTunes" from the "Open With:" sub-menu. Alternatively, select "Import Files" or "Import Folders" from iTunes' "File" menu, browse your hard drive for the files you want to add, then click "Open" to import them into iTunes.
Connect the iPod Shuffle to your computer using its USB cable. Click the iPod Shuffle's name within iTunes' left sidebar, then click the "Sync" button under the "Summary" tab. Wait until the program tells you the sync has completed, then disconnect the device.
Begin listening to your music. Click the left or right side of the circular button to move backward or forward in your list of songs, on its top or bottom to turn the volume up or down and the middle button to pause. It isn't possible to stop an iPod Shuffle entirely or turn its power off. Slide the button on top of the device to the right to "Lock" it so that accidental movements don't shuffle to another song.
If spite of its tiny size and drastically different appearance from the rest of the devices in the iPod family -- namely, the device doesn't have a screen -- the iPod Shuffle nonetheless requires an initial set up similar to that of other iPods. Once you transfer music from your computer onto the iPod Shuffle, using it requires you to choose from only three buttons to press.
