Open iTunes on your computer if it doesn’t launch automatically when your iPod Shuffle is connected to the computer. When iTunes begins reading your iPod Shuffle, an icon will appear in the “Device” section of iTunes--on the left-hand side of the screen, below the iTunes library tab.
Click the “Music” option below the “Library” tab on the left-hand side of iTunes. This will display all the music in your iTunes library in the main window of iTunes.
Click on the song you want to transfer to your iPod so it is highlighted in the window. You can transfer multiple songs at one time by holding down the “Ctrl” key on a PC or the “Command” key on a Mac and clicking on other songs. There's no limit to the number of songs you can select, but selecting more will make the transfer take longer.
Today’s iPods--including the Nano and Shuffle--can store a lot of music--Shuffles can store 500 or 1,000 songs, depending on the model, and the Nano can store 2,000 or 4,000 songs, depending on the model. Because the players don’t have a built-in Wi-Fi connection, the only way to fill them with music is to connect them to your computer. Transferring music to either the iPod Nano or Shuffle can be done on a PC or a Mac and requires nothing more than what’s included in the package and the iTunes software, which can be downloaded for free from Apple.
