Turn an Apple iPod On

Turn an Apple iPod On - For iPod Shuffles, check for a switch in the back of the device. Shift the switch to either the "play in order" or "shuffle" setting, and look for a green stripe to activate near the switch. That lets you know the iPod is on and ready to be played.

For other iPods, press any button on the front of the device. The menu should light up and allow you to use it normally.
Check the hold button on the iPod. If it's engaged, you may not be able to turn on the iPod. You can flip it to the "off" setting very easily and activate your iPod from there.

Understand that, if the iPod still won't turn on, it may be out of power. Recharge the battery by placing the iPod in its recharging holder and allowing it to sit for several hours. If you don't have a recharging holder, simply connect the iPod to your computer. It will draw power off the computer's battery and recharge normally.

Recognize that, in some circumstances, it may be necessary to reboot the iPod entirely. Hold down the "Menu" and "Select" buttons at the same time until the iPod screen goes dark. It will take a few minutes to boot up, the same way a computer does when you have to reboot it. After a few minutes, the Apple logo should appear onscreen, quickly followed by the menu screen itself.

Most iPods don't have a classic on/off switch like other personal electronics. This can lead to a certain amount of confusion on the part of new users who don't know how to activate the device. Apple bases its products on a user-friendly interface, however, which means that turning on an iPod is very easy. If you're having trouble, there are some quick steps you can take to correct the problem.
