Work the iPod Alarm

Work the iPod Alarm - Configure your iPod. Select "clock" under "extras" to ensure your iPod is set to the correct time zone (The default is California, home of Apple’s HQ). Having the wrong time zone can lead to missed flights and being tardy to vital appointments.

After setting the time zone, and while still in the "clock" mode, press the center button and select "alarm clock." Here you’ll be able to turn the alarm on (or off), set the time for the alarm, and what sound you want. You can select a simple beep, or one of the musical playlists for the alarm (provided you have established playlists on the iPod).
Another function of the iPod is the ability to sync with your calendar, and give you an alarm on upcoming calendar functions. Because the iPod was designed along with the other components of Apple’s “Digital Hub” strategy, it works seamlessly with iCal, Apple’s calendar software.

To set an alarm for an event you entered on your calendar (this must be done on the computer that you sync your iPod to), make sure the “reminder” or “alarm” option is checked in your calendar program. Whether you use iCal, or Microsoft products including Entourage (for the Mac) or Outlook (for Windows), you have the option to sync your calendar to your iPod. This alarm will pop up in the display window.

Apple Computer’s iPod, introduced in late 2001, has revolutionized not only the music industry, but the personal electronics industry as well. But besides playing music and video, the iPod is capable of several other tasks that were previously the domain of PDAs. These include the ability to display your contacts and calendar items, storing photos (along with other types of data), and the alarm function.
