Insert a music disc into your drive. Open iTunes by double-clicking the program, which is located on your desktop or your program folder. Check the songs you want to add, then click the "Import" button under "File" on the toolbar. If you are connected to the Internet, iTunes will label each song's name, artist, album and album art.
Plug in the ipod with the USB cable. iTunes will open and configure the iPod and apply any necessary updates. You will be prompted to name your iPod. If the iPod has been used with any other computer, iTunes will ask if you want to erase all files and pair it with this computer's iTunes. You can select "No" to keep all of your previous music and still download music from the new computer.
Select how you want to add your music to the iPod. Sync all songs with iTunes, but any songs not on iTunes will be deleted from the iPod. You can create playlists on iTunes and choose to match the iTunes playlist to the iPod. Check songs you want to add or un-check ones you don't want to add to the iPod.
Eject the iPod by clicking on the "Eject" button next to your iPod's name.
If you love the ability to take your music anywhere, it's important to be able to download music to your iPod nano from any computer. You can use any music-downloading program as long as your computer meets that program's requirements. You don't need special tools or extra gadgets to download your favorite music to your iPod nano. Not all iPods are created equal, however, and one may download music differently from another.
