Adjust the volume on your iPod to less than half of the maximum volume. This is important to do prior to connecting the iPod to your stereo receiver so that you do not inadvertently damage your stereo's speakers.
Connect the 3.5 mm end of the adapter cable to the headphone jack on the iPod.
Connect the other end of the adapter cable to an available RCA input on your stereo receiver. Take care to connect the red or right RCA cable to a right or red input on your stereo receiver and to connect the left of white RCA cable to left or white input on your stereo receiver.
An iPod personal media player can be used to play music through your stereo receiver. This is a great option if you do not want to listen to your iPod's music through headphones or through an iPod docking station. There are several different iPods available, including the iPod classic, iPod Touch, iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano. Although these devices have unique features and operate differently, all iPods connect to a stereo receiver in the same way.
