Push the round center button on the iPod's click wheel while also pushing the "Menu" button at the top of the wheel. Hold both buttons down.
Wait for the screen of the iPod classic to go dark. After a moment, the screen fills with a gray Apple logo. This indicates that the iPod is restarting.
Release the center and "Menu" buttons.
The 80GB fifth or sixth generation iPod Classic has no "Off" button because in most cases restarting the device is unnecessary; it enters standby mode automatically when it is unused for a short time. However, you may need to force it to restart because it becomes unresponsive or exhibits another problem. You can turn the iPod classic off and back on using the click wheel and Hold switch.
