Press and hold two buttons on your iPod. For iPod models with a click wheel (iPod Nano 1G to 5G, iPod Classic and iPod Mini 1G and 2G), press and hold the Center Select key and the Menu key for about 10 seconds--until the device restarts and you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. On iPod models with a touch wheel and scroll wheel, press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons for about 10 seconds--the two buttons just below the Off button--until you notice that the device has restarted. For iPod Touch models, press down and hold the Menu and Sleep buttons--one at the top right edge and one at the bottom center of the iPod face--for about 10 seconds until the device restarts.
Turn your iPod on and off again to make sure it is functioning properly. If it still appears frozen, try charging its battery for about 30 minutes.
Turn off your iPod as normal after you get it functioning again.
Although iPods are generally reliable, they can malfunction. You may try to use your iPod and find that the device is unresponsive to your commands and appears frozen, or locked. To unlock your iPod, you must first make sure your Hold switch is set in the unlock position. If that doesn't help, you can reset your iPod by pressing a combination of buttons on the device.
