Connect your frozen iPod to an iPod wall charger or a computer, using the iPod's USB cable. Leave the iPod connected to the charging device for at least 30 minutes. If you use a computer, make sure that the computer does not shut off or enter “Sleep Mode.” Otherwise, the iPod will not charge.
Flip the “Hold” switch to “ON” while the iPod is still connected to the charger. After about two seconds, flip the switch back to “OFF.”
Disconnect the frozen iPod from the charger. Reset the frozen iPod by toggling the iPod's “Hold” switch (as described in Step 3), then press and hold the “Menu” and Center buttons on the frozen iPod for approximately six to 10 seconds. After no longer than 10 seconds, the iPod logo should appear on the screen of the iPod.
There are several reasons why your iPod may freeze up while you are cycling through the device's music or while listening to the music that's been saved on the iPod. When your iPod is frozen, you may not be able to use the player at all or shut the iPod off.
