Click "Start" on your Windows PC taskbar, and select "Programs," "Apple" and "iTunes" to start the iTunes program. For Macintosh computers, open the "Applications" folder in Finder and double-click the "iTunes" icon.
Click the "iPod Touch" tab under the Devices section in the iTunes sidebar to highlight it. Click it once more to open the edit box. Press the "Delete" button on your keyboard to erase the old name, and create a new name for your iPod Touch.
Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard to save the changes, and click the "Apply" button in the main iTunes window. Disconnect the device when the "iPod sync is complete" message appears at the top of the iTunes program window.
The user name you create for your iPod Touch is first set up when you connect to your computer and run the installation wizard in iTunes. After the setup, your user name is displayed in the iTunes sidebar whenever the iPod Touch is connected to your computer, and is shown in the Windows Explorer or Finder window. While changing the user name does not affect your iTunes Store account or purchases, it is important to name your iPod Touch as proof of ownership.
