Download and install the program of your choice. Select the most recent version available for your operating system.
Import your music library into the program after installation is complete. Some programs, like YamiPod, will let you do this by dragging and dropping the music folder into the library window. Other programs may have the "Import" option located in the File or Tools menu at the top of the screen.
Connect your iPod to the computer using the included FireWire or USB cable. It should be recognized by the program that you have installed.
Although the iPod is designed to integrate seamlessly with iTunes, Apple's proprietary media software, it may not be the best option for everyone. Users who are running an operating system other than Windows or Macintosh have no choice but to use an alternative program to organize and transfer their music. Fortunately, there are several programs available for people who prefer not to use iTunes. These alternatives are usually smaller in file size as well, making them suitable for users without broadband Internet.
