Click the "Manually manage music and videos" check box, found in the center pane, if it is not already selected. This mode is used to delete songs from the iPod Touch library instead of the computer's iTunes library.

Click the "Music" option beneath the Touch's listing in the left source pane. Your Touch's music will appear in the center pane.

The second generation iPod Touch, also referred to as the iPod Touch 2, came in storage sizes of 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB. Depending on your model, you may never need to delete songs to clear space off the hard drive. If you do find yourself cramped on space, whether you have the low end 8 GB version or the bulkier 32 GB mode, use iTunes to manually manage the iPod Touch's songs.
