Wait for the sync to complete. Click your iPod under "Devices" on the left side of the program window. This opens all of the content currently stored on your iPod.
Click "Restore to factory settings." This removes all of the content currently saved on your iPod and reinstalls any missing software. You are asked if you are sure you want to do this. Select "Yes."
Allow the iPod to restart and to remove all its content. Once finished, the iPod will sync with your current content and place it back on the hard drive of the iPod. This will take a while to complete (possibly several hours), so you may want to go do something else while this is taking place.
The Apple iPod comes prepackaged with a majority of its software. This includes the operating system it runs and, if you have an iPod touch, the extra applications you have (such as the calculator, maps or notepad). However, mistakes can be made and content from your iPod can be removed, including some of the software. Luckily, you can install the software back onto the device if it is deleted.
