Take Apart an Apple iPod A1285

Take Apart an Apple iPod A1285 - Pry out the top and bottom bevels on the iPod with the iPod tool or other similar tool. The bevels are the thin pieces of plastic that snap into the case at the top and bottom to protect it from damage. To pry apart pieces of the iPod, you can use a special iPod opening tool (see Resources), or you can use a guitar pick or thin putty knife.

Unscrew the two screws found beneath the top bevel, and unscrew the three screws found beneath the bottom bezel.
Remove the metal bracket that surrounds the data port. It is found on the bottom of the iPod, and it can be removed with a little screwdriver if it does not cooperate.

Pry the metal chassis out of the top of the iPod a small distance until you can see the hold switch and its attached ribbon cable. Pry the hold switch out of the chassis gently.

Press gently on the bottom of the iPod's screen until the top of the glass pops away from the casing. Pry the glass out and remove it.

An Apple iPod A1285 is the fourth-generation of the iPod Nano released in 2008. It came in two versions: 8 gigabytes and 16 gigabytes. Taking apart an iPod can be necessary to replace a dysfunctional part, but in most cases doing so voids any applicable warranty that Apple provides.
