Unscrew the two screws found beneath the top bevel, and unscrew the three screws found beneath the bottom bezel.
Remove the metal bracket that surrounds the data port. It is found on the bottom of the iPod, and it can be removed with a little screwdriver if it does not cooperate.
Pry the metal chassis out of the top of the iPod a small distance until you can see the hold switch and its attached ribbon cable. Pry the hold switch out of the chassis gently.
