Turn Off a 2nd Generation iPod Nano

Turn Off a 2nd Generation iPod Nano - Slide the tab at the top right corner of the nano back and forth two times. Leave the tab positioned so that the orange stripe beneath it cannot be seen.

Press and hold down on the “Play/Pause” button at the bottom of the nano’s click wheel with a finger from one hand.
Release the “Play/Pause” button when the nano’s LCD screen dims out and nothing can be seen on it--this should not take more than 5 or 6 seconds.

The 2nd generation iPod nano continues Apple's tradition of producing a compact media player that is smaller than the full-sized iPod. Turning the nano off does not actually shut it down--the nano is designed to go into a sleep mode instead which conserves battery power and eliminates strain on the electronic components. A single button press will turn the 2nd generation iPod "off." This will not cause any harm to the nano nor make it unable to be awakened so it can be used again.
