Check Email on an IPod Touch

Check Email on an IPod Touch - Set up your iPod touch to sync by attaching the wide end of the USB cable into the dock at the bottom of your iPod. Insert the smaller end into a USB port on your computer. The keyboard ports on a desktop computer do not have enough power to sustain syncing, so use one of the ports on the computer itself.

Open iTunes and wait for your iPod to be recognized. Go to the "Info" tab at the top of the summary screen that appears.
Choose the type of email account you want to sync from the list of options. Refer to your iPod touch user manual to find out which mail programs are compatible with your iPod. Click on "Sync."

Get a free email account to use with your iPod touch if you do not have an email account through your Internet Service Provide (ISP). Both Yahoo! and Google Mail (Gmail) offer free email accounts that can be used with the iPod touch (see Resources below). Go to "Settings," "Mail" and "Account" to add an email address from Yahoo! or Gmail directly to your iPod touch.

Tap the "Mail" icon on the home screen of your iPod. When you have unread mail in your inbox, the number of messages will display in a red circle at the top of the icon.

Unlike previous generations of iPods, the iPod touch contains an email program. You can check, compose and send email as you are listening to music or surfing the Internet. Sync the email account you use on your computer to your iPod touch or add a new email account to use on your iPod.
