Completely Format a 3rd Generation iPod Nano - Connect the iPod USB cable to the bottom of the iPod Nano and an open USB port on your computer.

Open Apple's iTunes application on the computer connected to the iPod Nano. If you do not have the software, you can download it from Apple's website.
Click the iPod Nano icon on the left side of iTunes underneath the "Devices" menu.

Click the "Restore" button on the center of the page.



Click "Restore" again when prompted to confirm your choice.

The iPod Nano was released in 2005. It features a color screen and is a smaller, more condensed version of Apple's now-classic iPod. In the event you need to reformat your iPod Nano, you can do so with Apple's iTunes software included with the purchase of the Nano. Properly format the Nano's drive to clear it of all your files.
