Turn off the iPod to prevent electrical damage. Hold the Play/Pause or bottom button for five seconds until the screen goes completely blank. After that, turn on the Hold switch to make sure the iPod doesn't accidentally spring to life.
Use a hair drier to melt the glue on the inside of the case. Since you are working with a Nano, you will need to concentrate most of the heat on the top of the case. This process will take about a minute if the drier is on high.
Get your iPod opening tool. You can buy an iPod opening tool online at iFixIt or Rapid Repair (see Resources). These tools are used by professional iPod technicians and are made of special plastic that will not scratch the surface of your iPod.
Having an iPod is great, unless it's broken. If the warranty is no longer valid and a repair shop costs are too high, you may need to slap on your mechanic's hat and complete the necessary repairs yourself.
