Download and then open Winamp (see the Resource section).
Click the "Media Library" tab that is found near the left top part of Winamp. On the menu in the left column you'll find your iPod under the "Portables" list. The name of your iPod likely will be your name and the word "iPod," such as "Grant's iPod."
Click your iPod's name, which will enable you to see the contents of your iPod.
Click the "File" menu and choose "Add Media to Library." Double click the folders that you'd like to download to your iPod. They now have been added to the Winamp music library, which you can find by clicking on the "Audio" option under "Local Media" in the menu in the left column of Winamp.
You don't have to use iTunes to download MP3 music to your iPod. While that is the program that Apple created for use with their iPod, there are others available that perform the same function. These programs include Winamp, CopyTrans Manager and MediaMonkey. They are free, safe to use and can be downloaded legally online in just minutes. Once one is installed, it will be possible to transfer MP3s to your iPod without using iTunes.
