Fully Reset Your iPod

Fully Reset Your iPod - Download iTunes to your computer and install the program. ITunes is a program used to control and play files on an iPod. The program also allows you to fully reset your iPod by restoring the device to its original factory settings, erasing any files on the iPod's hard drive. ITunes is available from Apple's website. (See Resources)

Connect the iPod to your computer using its USB cable. The cable is included with the iPod when it was first purchased; however, replacement cables can be bought from most electronics stores.
Open iTunes on your computer and wait for the program to read your iPod. You know its connected when you see your iPod in the left panel under "Devices."

Select your iPod in the left panel. You see a summary analysis of your iPod in the right panel, detailing how much hard drive space on your iPod is free.

Choose the "Restore" button under "Version." This completely resets your iPod, erasing all your files.

Fully resetting an iPod enables a user to erase all files on the device. Full restoration can fix a technical problem or prepare the device for a new owner. While the iPod itself does not have an option to delete individual files, a full reset is possible by connecting the device to a computer.
