Install Software on an Older iPod

Install Software on an Older iPod - Visit the Apple Web site (see below) and download and install the newest version if iTunes. Every version of every iPod has used iTunes since day one.

Locate the installation CD and put it in your disc drive. Should your iPod not have a CD, it is either a newer generation or its CD has been lost.
Insert the disc into the disc drive. On most computers, this will start an autorun program which will read the disc and begin installation of the iPod software.

Follow the instructions of the "Installation Wizard." There should be a window of some kind that guides you through the installation process or monitors its progress.

Connect your iPod. Some computers will ask you to connect your iPod during the installation process. If this is the case, do so with the USB cable provided.
