Launch your Web browser, and go to the Apple Recycling Program site at apple.com if you cannot go to an Apple Retail Store in person. The page has a form for you to fill out to recycle the iPod by mail.
Type your name and address in the form. Click the "Prepaid Printable Label" option if you want to print out a prepaid shipping label to use on your own packaging to return the broken iPod. Click the "Prepaid Mailer" option if you would like Apple to mail you prepaid packing materials for free.
Click the "Continue" button to generate a label to print out on your printer, or to have Apple send you the packing materials. According to Apple, the prepaid packing materials should arrive within seven to 10 business days.
Put your broken iPod in a package, and mail it to Apple. You are not eligible to receive a 10 percent discount on the purchase of a new iPod if you mail your broken iPod to Apple instead of taking it to a retail store.
If your iPod is broken, and you're not going to get it fixed, you might want to keep it out of the landfill and recycle it. The iPod, a portable music player made by Apple, contains a built-in rechargeable battery, along with electronic components, metal and plastic, which should be disposed of properly, and not simply thrown in the trash. When you bring your broken iPod directly to Apple, you qualify to get a discount off the purchase of your next iPod, so you can benefit while also helping the environment.
