Hold in the "Select" and the "Play/Pause" button (on the click wheel) simultaneously. Proceed to the next step when your iPod enters "Disk Mode" and displays the message "OK to disconnect."
Reconnect your iPod to your Mac or PC using the 30-pin cable that came with the device.
Launch iTunes by double-clicking the iTunes icon on your desktop.
No one who owns an iPod wants to plug the device into the computer and see the error message "iPod is corrupt please restore." Unfortunately, a number of problems, both user-related and device-related, can cause an iPod to become corrupted. Viruses from a PC or Mac can sometimes infiltrate your iPod, the installation of a new version of iTunes can cause errors and users who attempt to alter the code or internal settings of the iTunes database can corrupt their iPods. As long as the iPod's hard drive has not suffered any damage, you can restore your corrupted iPod back to working life.
