Open itunes on the computer and connect the ipod to the computer using the ipod connecting cable. This may take a moment for itunes to recognize the ipod and the "do not disconnect" warning will be shown again. Do not disconnect the ipod this time.
Select the ipod from the source list in itunes and this will open the ipod summary screen in itunes, it will look similar to the picture here. Click on the RESTORE tab. This will provide you with 4 options. To make sure you completely restore all the settings choose option 4: Restore and update.
Allow the ipod to restore, you will see a progress bar on the computer screen and although it may look completely full after a few minutes, leave the ipod connected. All information on the ipod will have been erased and will need to be reloaded onto the ipod.
