Reset an Older iPod

Reset an Older iPod - Flip your iPod hold switch off and then on. The hold switch is the button on the side that shows red when in hold mode. This disables the controls on the iPod, so you can put it in your pocket without inadvertently turning it on or off.

Press "Menu" on the click wheel while holding down the center button (also called the select button).
Hold both these until you see the Apple logo on the screen, which usually appears within eight seconds.

Wait for the iPod to reboot before operating. If this does not reset the iPod, repeat. If that does not work, connect it to a computer or charger and try the reset procedure again.

The iPod has a manual reset feature that comes in handy if you are having problems with the device. Perhaps it is frozen, or your contacts and calendars failed to load. Either way, a reset might remedy the problem. You can execute the reset at any time, without connecting the device to a computer. Keep in mind, though, that the reset uses more power than regular usage, so you may not want to do it if the battery is low.
