Restart a Frozen Apple on an iPod Touch

Restart a Frozen Apple on an iPod Touch - Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until you see a red slider. Slide it to "Off" and wait for the touch to shut down.

Press the Home button and the iPod will restart. The iPod should function normally. If the slider didn't appear or the iPod is still frozen, proceed to a reset.
Plug your iPod into your computer and wait at least ten minutes. The battery may need to be recharged and this may solve your problem.

Try the Home button to see if your iPod is still frozen. If you get a specific error code check with Apple Support to avoid erasing all your data. Or continue with a hard reset. Use iTunes to reinstall your most recent backup when the restore is finished.

Disconnect the iPod from the computer and press the Sleep/Wake button down to see if the On/Off slider appears. If it does, slide it to "Off" to restart the touch. If it doesn't, release the button and continue.

If your Apple icon is frozen on your iPod touch, or if your iPod has been unresponsive for several minutes, you will need to restart your touch. Occasionally the restart won't work on a frozen touch and a reset will be required. A full reset will erase your data, but luckily iTunes creates an automatic backup of your touch every time you sync, so even if you have to restore your iPod you can get the data from your last sync back when the touch restarts.
