Click on the name of your iPod in your iTunes and then click on the "Check for Update" button.
After any updates are installed, click on the "Restore" button. Read through all of the warnings and choose the "Restore" button once again.
Unplug the iPod when it asks you to do so, and plug it back into your connector when prompted to do so. Click on the "Quit" button when the restore process is complete.
Start up iTunes again with your iPod connected. In the iPod Setup Assistant pop-up, deselect the "Automatically update songs on my iPod" option. Click on the "Next" button, and your iPod's battery should be restored. If you are still experiencing problems with your battery, contact an Apple representative for support (See Resources).
It is common for iPods, especially for older generations, to have a reduction in battery power the more and longer it's used. If you are experiencing a reduction in life of your iPod's battery, then you should restore you iPod completely. By restoring your iPod, you'll be able to add newer updates and changes to can solve the problems with your battery.
