Turn Off the Exterior Speakers of Your iPod Touch - Press the round button at the bottom of your iPod Touch's screen, and slide your finger as instructed to unlock your iPod Touch.

Press the "Settings" icon, then select the "General" option.
Tap the "Sounds" option.

Slide the sound bar all the way to the left with your finger. The sound bar has a muted speaker icon on the left side and an amplified speaker icon on the right side. You have now muted or turned off your iPod Touch's built-in exterior speakers.

The iPod Touch features built-in exterior speakers that allow you to play media and sounds directly from your iPod Touch without using headphones or external speakers. It is also possible to adjust the volume of the sound that will play through the iPod's exterior speakers and to completely turn off the speakers so that no sound will play through the iPod Touch's built-in exterior speakers.
