Insert the narrower end of the iPod USB cable into any free USB port on your computer.
Open the iTunes application by clicking on the Dock icon on a Mac or using the Start menu on a PC.
Click on the iPod Nano icon under the "Devices" heading on the left side of the iTunes window.
Click on the "Sync" button in the lower-right corner of the screen to transfer your music library and other files to your iPod Nano. When you receive confirmation of the transfer from iTunes, it means your iPod Nano has been successfully synced with your computer.
An iPod is essentially useless directly out of the box. In order for it to play your music and videos, it must first be charged and then synced with a computer. The battery in the iPod Nano can be charged either from a wall outlet or the USB port of a computer. Syncing the iPod Nano also takes place through a USB port, which allows the device to connect to your computer, as long as it has the iTunes program installed on it.
