Click on the iPod shuffle icon in the left pane. The center pane will then show information about the device, including how much storage space is left and the name of the device.
Press the "Restore" button. This button is located under the picture of the device in the center pane. iTunes will notify you that restoring your iPod Shuffle will remove all content and ask you if you wish to continue. Click "OK" to begin the process.
Wait for the iPod to restore. Since the iPod shuffle does not have a screen, you will have to wait until the iTunes program indicates that the restore is finished before unplugging your iPod Shuffle.
Whether you are experiencing a problem or are just trying to start fresh, there are several reasons why you may want to completely erase your iPod Shuffle. Although you could use iTunes to manually remove each song individually, it is much easier to perform what is known as a "system restore" which will reinstall the iPod's software and will subsequently clear all the content from the iPod.
