Launch iTunes. Go to "File" and select "Add File to Library." Browse for the converted M4V file in the file selection window. Select the item and click the "Open" button to import it into the application. The media will appear listed under the Library's "Movies" tab.
Connect the iPod Nano to the computer with a USB cable. iTunes will recognize the device and sync the library with the media stored on the device. A confirmation message will appear when the syncing process has completed.
Disconnect the iPod Nano. Go to the home screen and select "Videos." Locate the converted M4V file on the list of stored media. Click the title to play the video on the device.
AVI files are digital videos that are supported by a variety of media players and editing software. But before an AVI file can be uploaded and played on a portable media player like an iPod Nano, users will need to convert the video into a compatible format. Once the AVI file has been re-formatted as a compliant M4V file, the video can be loaded into iTunes and transferred onto the iPod Nano.
