Put the CD into your disk drive and if prompted to download, press "Cancel." Double-click on the CD icon on your desktop to show the songs on the CD. Press "Control+A" to select all the songs.
Click one of the songs, thereby selecting all highlighted, and drag it to the iPod icon on your desktop or file folder menu. Release over the iPod and wait for the CD content to download.
Import the CD to your computer's current music player if you can't put it directly on your iPod. Then drag and drop the files from the music player to the iPod icon on your operating system's desktop.
iTunes is designed to fit well with iPods, so it's the standard choice for downloading music to your iPod device of any generation. However, if you're running Linux or would prefer to use a different music player, you will still be able to add music from a CD to your iPod. You will just need a computer with a CD drive that can recognize your iPod. If the iPod was initially formatted to work with a different operating system, your computer may prompt you to reformat the iPod before you use it with your music player.
