Reprogram an iPod Touch

Reprogram an iPod Touch - Hold down the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button at the same time if your iPod is frozen or not responding. Keep the buttons pressed until the screen goes blank, this puts the iPod Touch in recovery mode.

Press the "Home" button with one hand while you plug the disabled iPod into your computer with the other. ITunes prompts you to restore the iPod in recovery mode.
Click "OK" to start the restore process. When iTunes is finished, your iPod Touch is completely reset, blank except for the original operating system, and ready to reload with new data.

Plug the iPod Touch straight into your computer as usual to initiate a restore without entering recovery mode. Launch iTunes if it doesn't open automatically.

Click your iPod's name under "Devices" in the left window panel of iTunes. The "Summary" tab opens.

Completely reprogram your iPod Touch by performing a "Restore." Don't let the name fool you, Apple's restore function restores the original factory settings so the iPod's drive is wiped clean except for the operating system. Access the restore utility in iTunes. If your iPod is frozen or has stopped functioning, first reset it manually and then finish the restore in iTunes.
