Turn off the iPod Touch by holding down the "Sleep/Wake" button for two or three seconds. The red slider will appear on the screen.
Slide the red slider on the display. The iPod Touch will turn off after a second or two. If this does not work, hold down the "Sleep/Wake" and "Home" buttons simultaneously. Release the buttons when the screen turns black.
Press the "Home" button and keep pressing it as you connect the iPod Touch to the USB cable. The iPod Touch turns on.
An iPod Touch or iPhone can freeze while it's using an application, on the home screen, or even while it's off. It does not usually freeze on the Apple logo screen unless you were in the midst of updating or restoring the device. The steps to recover from this freeze are a bit different than if it was stuck during normal use. If you were updating the iPod Touch, you will have to restore the device. If you were already trying to restore it when it froze, first follow the instructions under "If Restore Does Not Work" before trying to restore it a second time.
