Compile all of your Real Media files into a central folder on your desktop. Once you have filled this folder with all of your music files, create another new folder. This will house your new MP3 or M4A files for your iPod.
Open your conversion program and run your files through it, making sure to set the empty folder on your desktop as the target or destination for the files.
Open iTunes. If you do not already have it installed, you will need it in order to load songs on to your iPod. See "Additional Resources," below, for a link. Next, go to the file menu and select "Add Folder to Library." When the new window pops up, select your folder from the list of folders on the desktop and then click "OK." The songs will then be added to your library automatically.
The Real Player media player is a great tool for playing your digital music files back on your computer. However, if you have a personal music device like the iPod, then sharing files between the two can become quite cumbersome as Real Player files are formatted differently. But with the use of some free software, you can reformat your files from Real Player in order to work on your iPod.
