Recharge an iPod that is still not responding. According to Apple, an iPod with a depleted battery may be connected to a computer for 30 minutes before it has charged enough for the computer to recognize it.
Reset the iPod if still not responding. For most iPods, this is simply a matter of toggling the Hold switch to the Hold position and back, then pressing both the center (Select) button and the Menu (upper part of wheel) for up to 10 seconds.
Repeat if still no response. Place the iPod on a flat surface to ensure Select and Menu buttons are being simultaneously depressed.
Nothing can be more frustrating, or distressing, than an iPod that will not boot. It is easy to fix an iPod that will not boot with a few easy steps, and in most cases the information stored on the device will be intact. It is necessary to have access to the iPod's home computer.
