Select your iPod from the "Devices" list and click on the "Summary" tab on the right pane. Shift-click on "Restore" if you are using a PC. Option-click on "Restore" if you are using a Mac. Select the iPod software file you downloaded and click "Open."
Choose whether you wish to back up your iPod when prompted. Click "Restore" to install the software to the iPod. After the iPod restarts, click "OK" to complete the process.
Apple iPods usually ship with the latest software update for the device. However, sometimes the latest firmware may not support the applications you wish to use. You can use iTunes to restore your iPod to an earlier software version.
