Safely Remove the iPod After Charging - Unplug the iPod's USB cable from the computer, if you weren't doing anything but letting it charge. If you are not adding to or transferring anything from the memory, it is safe to simply unplug.

Press the "Eject" icon next to "iPod" on the left sidebar of your iTunes window. Wait for the prompt, and then unplug the iPod's USB connection from the computer. Use this method if you were adding music to the iTunes while it was charging.
Right click on the green USB icon on the notification side of your task bar. Select "Safely Remove Hardware" and wait for the prompt to unplug your iPod. Use this method if you were transferring files to or from your iPod.





Disconnecting a USB device without following the recommended procedure can result in a loss of data or other problems. When charging your iPod with the USB cable, you're not using the memory, so no special procedure is required to unhook it. If you are performing other tasks while letting your iPod charge, certain safety precautions should be followed to prevent problems with your iPod.
