Switch an iPod to Manual Mode - Connect your iPod to your computer using the iPod's USB cable.

Open iTunes. In some instances, the program may open automatically when you connect your iPod to your computer, depending on your specific settings for iTunes.
Find your iPod in the source panel on the left side of the window beneath "Devices" and click on it. This will open a summary of your iPod's basic settings, such as sync modes. If not, click on the "Summary" tab.

Place a check in the box corresponding to "Manually manage music and videos."



Click "OK" in the resulting confirmation box. Your iPod is now set to manual mode.

The iPod uses a program called iTunes to sync music, videos and more to the device, allowing users to take all types of media with them on the go. ITunes has two different sync modes: The first mode automatically syncs your iPod with iTunes whenever your connect your iPod to your computer. The other, referred to as manual mode, allows the user to select individual media files to transfer over to the iPod. Switching your iPod to manual mode only requires a few easy steps.
