Check to see how your computer is operating if the iPod is plugged into it to recharge. While the USB ports on most computers are easily able to recharge Apple iPod batteries, they are only able to do so if the computer is active. If the computer is set to go to sleep after a few minutes, you will either want to change the computer's sleep settings, remember to move the computer mouse every few minutes to keep it active or plug in the iPod somewhere else.
Check what kind of operating system the computer you are plugged into runs on. Although iPods can be plugged into almost any kind of computer, not every operating system works well with iPods. For example, if your computer uses Windows 2000, there are extra steps that need to be taken to get the computer capable of recharging the Apple iPod battery (see Resources below).
Unplug some of the devices from the USB ports in your computer. Even if there are several USB ports on the computer, it sometimes is true that the computer is unable to process a lot of external devices at once. If you have other devices like cell phones, cameras or flash drives also hooked into the USB ports, remove these devices and re-insert the iPod USB port. The Apple iPod battery should now be able to charge.
Although iPods can offer users tons of memory and save thousands of songs, all of these songs and all of this memory does not matter much if the iPod battery is not properly working. When a battery does not work correctly, there are a few things that could possibly have caused the problem. In order to remedy the problem, you must first determine from what the problem stems. That is why troubleshooting an Apple iPod battery is important.
