Press the "Settings" icon and then select the "Wi-Fi" option, which will be the first option listed. Make sure Wi-Fi is "On." If the Wi'Fi is currently off, tap the "Off" to turn the Wi-Fi feature on.
Slide the button next to "Ask to Join Networks" to the "On" position. Your iPod Touch will now detect all wireless networks within range of the device.
Find the secure wireless network you want to join, and select the network by tapping on the network's name. You will know that the network is secure, if there is a padlock displayed to the right of the network's name. Enter the password for the network you have selected. If you have entered the correct password and the security protocol matches, you will see a check mark next to the network indicating that you have successfully connected to the secure network. Most of the time, this is all you will need to do to connect to a secure network. If you do not see the check mark and you are sure that you entered the correct password, continue to Step 5.
It is possible for an iPod Touch to be connected to a secure Wi-Fi connection. Secure networks have passwords, though, so you must know the password and the network's name to successfully connect your iPod Touch to the secure wireless network. There are also several security protocols that are currently used when setting up secure Wi-Fi networks. These protocols are WEP, WPA, WPA2, WAP Enterprise, and WPA2 Enterprise. If your iPod is unable to determine the protocol that is being used on the secure network, you must also know the type of protocol used to set up the network.
