Push the iPod case-opening tool down the left side of the Pod and to the bottom of the iPod. Move it across the bottom from left to right to release the bottom clip.
Insert the tool into the right side of the iPod and use it to release the clips holding the two halves of the iPod together. Wiggle the two halves apart using the iPod tool and remove the top half from the bottom half.
Locate the hard drive, which is near the bottom of the case. Take a small piece of cellophane tape and roll it over to form a circle that is sticky on all sides. Press the cellophane tape against the hard drive.
Cut a business card in half using the scissors and discard one half. Fold the other half over and put it on top of the hard drive so that one side sticks to the cellophane tape.
The advantage of an iPod that has a hard drive is that there is a lot of storage space for holding your music, photos and videos. The spinning disk of the hard drive can be dislodged from the iPod being accidentally bumped, and this causes the hard drive to emit a clicking sound as it operates. Fixing a broken iPod hard drive requires opening the iPod and applying pressure to the hard drive where it sits against the iPod's case. This is not difficult to do and can save you a trip to a service center and the cost of having to replace the iPod's hard drive.
