Fix a Cracked Apple iPod Touch Screen

Fix a Cracked Apple iPod Touch Screen - Position the iPod opening tool angled slightly toward the metal back panel. Insert it in the center of the top seam between plastic display panel and the metal back panel.

Leave the small tool in place and insert the larger opening tool in the right side of the iPod, 1/3 inch down from the top-right corner. Again, angle it towards the rear panel of the iPod.
Rock the large opening tool back-and forth while working it toward the bottom of the iPod. Repeat the same procedure on the opposite side of the iPod, leaving the small tool in the top.

Grasp the plastic display panel and carefully separate if from the back panel.

Position the opened iPod so the gold antenna sits bottom right with the display facing up. Pry the battery slowly from the display with the wiring spudger.

Replacing a cracked touchscreen on an iPod is an easy, yet somewhat tedious, endeavor. What the process lacks in economy of time however, it makes up for in economy of repair costs; an iPod replacement screen costs approximately 50 dollars, whereas a repair on a 16GB model costs 299 dollars. After teardown and screen replacement, you need only reverse the steps; the adhesive used in the iPod is abundant and heat sensitive, alleviating the need for replacement adhesive.
