Play an iPod on the iMac

Play an iPod on the iMac - Plug the iPod into the iMac using the proper iPod USB cable.

Allow iTunes to open. It will automatically load the iPod.
Select the iPod tab from the menu on the left side of the iTunes screen. All music, photos, and videos can be accessed and viewed from the iTunes software. Play any desired songs or movies on the iPod using the iTunes window.

Reformat the iPod if it is a PC-formatted iPod. Plug the iPod into the the USB port. When it is visible in the iTunes menu, select it and click "Restore" from the main menu in the center of the window. This will cause all data on the iPod to erase for reformatting to the iMac's specifications.

To play an iPod on an iMac computer, you only need an iPod USB cable and iTunes software, which comes standard with any new iPod or iMac. It is also available as a free download from Apple's website. There is, however, one instance when this operation is not be possible--a PC formatted iPod. A PC formatted iPod will not communicate properly with a Mac computer. In this case, the only alternative would be to re-format the iPod on a Mac, but this would entail losing all data saved onto the iPod.
