Plug the iPod touch into your computer using the provided USB cable. Let the device charge for at least 10 minutes before pressing the "Home" button again. Let the device charge fully for best results.
Unplug the iPod touch and press the "Home" button again. If the touch still doesn't respond, press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button for a few seconds until the red slider appears. Swipe your finger across the red slider to power down the iPod touch. Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button again until the Apple logo shows up on the screen and then use the device normally.
Perform a hard reset on the iPod touch if problems persist. Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. The Apple logo appears and the device shuts off. Press the "Sleep/Wake" button again to turn it back on, after which it should function properly -- as long as the battery is charged.
Connect the iPod touch to your computer again if the device still isn't working correctly. Open iTunes and then click on your device on the left-hand side under "Devices." Click on the "Summary" tab at the top of the main iTunes window and scroll down until you see the "Restore" tab. Click "Restore" to erase all of the content on your iPod touch and replace it to the factory default settings. You can back up your applications, media and settings as part of the restore process and restore it immediately after.
The iPod touch is an almost-buttonless MP3 player. The device only has two buttons -- the power button on top and the "Home" button on the front panel; all other commands are entered through the touch-screen display.
