Open iTunes, or wait for it to automatically start.
Select the "iPod" tab under the Devices section in the iTunes source list, and click the "Summary" tab near the top of the iTunes window.
Click the "Restore" button, and click "Restore" on the dialog box to confirm the action. Leave the iPod connected to the computer during this process until the iPod screen and the iTunes window display "iPod Sync is complete. OK to disconnect."
A corrupt iPod will be unresponsive when attempting to use it, unable to sync to your computer, or will crash or freeze up frequently while in use. To remedy the problem you must restore your iPod, which erases all previous information stored on the device and provides a clean slate. By restoring your iPod, all of your data, including media and settings, are erased and can only be recovered by syncing the device to your iTunes library on your computer.
