Click the "Online Service Assistant" link in the "Self Service" box on the right side of the screen.
Type the serial number of the iPod Nano in the box labeled "Hardware Serial Number" and then select the country of purchase from the "Country" drop-down list.
Click on the "Continue" button to submit the entered serial number. The page reloads and displays the iPod model and generation associated with the serial number entered.
First released in 2001, the iPod has dominated the market for personal media players. The range has rapidly expanded to add new models, as well as several revisions of existing models, known as generations. Each generation added new features and corrected any problems found with earlier revisions. With six generations of the iPod Nano available at the time of publication, identifying a particular model and generation is not always easy, as generations often look similar. The Apple website provides a solution; there you can enter your iPod's serial number and see the exact model and generation.
