Reset a 40GB iPod

Reset a 40GB iPod - Toggle the iPod's hold switch, located on its top edge, from on to off.

Push and hold the iPod's "Menu" button, located on the top edge of its front click wheel, and its center button at the same time.
Wait for six to eight seconds, or until the iPod displays the Apple logo on its screen, before releasing the buttons. The iPod is now reset.

In 2003, Apple began releasing 40-gigabyte (GB) models of its popular iPod portable media players as part of its iPod Color and iPod Photo product lines. The 40GB player can hold up to 10,000 songs, according to Apple. The device may occasionally freeze or lock up while you're using it. Resetting the device can help restart its internal software and resolve any problems that may be causing the freezing so you can once again enjoy your music collection.
