Connect your iPod to your computer using the iPod's included USB cable. Your computer will recognize your iPod and initiate the iTunes application.
Click "Yes" when asked if you want to sync your iPod to iTunes. This initial process may take up to 10 minutes or longer because the application will search for and download hardware updates for your iPod. After the process is complete, any music that you add to the iTunes library on this computer will sync with your iPod the next time you connect the device to the computer.
Import audio files to iTunes by dragging them into the iTunes playlist. The application will automatically copy the audio files into its library. As of version 9, the iTunes application supports the MP3, WAV, AIFF, and AAC audio file formats.
Your iPod isn't very practical unless it loaded with your favorite music. With a free iTunes download and your CD library, putting music on the iPod is a very simple task. You can add music by importing CDs and audio files and by using the Apple iTunes Store.
